Kinetic Art Installation and Open-Air Museum
Coins of the World: is a large-scale kinetic installation that transforms a public space into an open-air museum.
The main idea of the project is to present the history of different countries, cultures, and eras through coins. The installation features 800 different coins from around the world. Each coin is not merely a monetary object, but a small historical symbol reflecting the state, time period, culture, power, art, trade, and events of its era.
Through coins, we can see how the world has changed — from ancient civilizations and empires to modern states. That is why the installation functions not only as a beautiful art object, but also as an educational space that attracts attention, sparks curiosity, and encourages people to learn more.
World History Through Coins
Coins have always been part of human history. They have depicted rulers, gods, coats of arms, animals, architecture, national symbols, commemorative dates, and important events.
That is why every coin can tell its own story — about a country, a city, a people, a time period, or a cultural tradition.
The “Coins of the World” installation brings these stories together in one space. Visitors see not just a decorative composition, but a large visual map of world history.
The object attracts attention through its scale, metal, light, and kinetic movement. But the most important part begins when a person comes closer: they start examining the details, looking for familiar countries, noticing dates, symbols, and images. This creates a natural desire to explore the object, photograph it, discuss it, and return to it again.
Open-Air Museum
“Coins of the World” can become a new format for urban cultural space.
Unlike a traditional museum, this installation is accessible to everyone. It can be placed in a square, park, waterfront area, near a museum, in a tourist zone, residential development, or public space.
A person may simply pass by and see an impressive art object. Or they may stop, study the coins, and learn their stories through a digital layer.
This format brings culture closer to people. History moves beyond museum walls and becomes part of everyday urban life.
Mobile Application
A mobile application can be developed for the installation, adding digital educational content to the physical object.
Using a QR code or barcode, visitors will be able to access information about specific coins presented in the installation.
The application can include:
- country of origin of the coin;
- period or year of issue;
- historical context;
- meaning of images and symbols;
- interesting facts;
- map of the country or region;
- audio guide;
- educational materials for children and tourists.
As a result, the installation becomes not just a visual object, but a fully interactive museum that people can explore through their phones.
Kinetics, Light, and Materials
The installation consists of 800 kinetic aluminum coins placed within a spatial metal structure. The movement of the elements, reflections of metal, light, and shadows create the effect of a living surface.
During the day, the object works through its form, textures, details, and kinetic movement. In the evening, the RGB lighting system turns the installation into an expressive light object.
The lighting can create different scenarios: calm museum-style illumination, warm golden and bronze tones, dynamic waves, accents on individual zones, and evening decorative shows.
An additional conceptual layer is created by 13 bronze coins integrated into the floor. They can represent key eras, countries, events, or themes of the project. Visitors literally walk through history as they move through the installation.
A Platform for Any Urban Idea
The basic concept is dedicated to coins from different countries and eras, but the idea itself can be adapted to any city or territory.
Based on this platform, it is possible to create an installation dedicated to:
the history of a city;
outstanding people;
architectural symbols;
local legends;
important events;
trade, crafts, or regional industry;
cultural traditions;
tourist routes.
For example, instead of world coins, a series of original “city coins” can be created, where each coin tells the story of an important place, event, or person. In this case, the object becomes a visual encyclopedia of the city and a new symbol of the territory.
Where the Installation Can Be Used
“Coins of the World” is especially well suited for spaces where it is important to create a cultural, tourist, and visually memorable point of attraction.
The installation can be placed in city parks, squares, waterfronts, historic centers, near museums, in cultural districts, universities, tourist complexes, hotels, residential developments, exhibitions, forums, and festivals.
The object works simultaneously as an art installation, photo zone, educational route, light composition, and open-air museum exhibition.
